Tips to Survive Allergy Season

How to Relieve Allergies

Whether spring has sprung in your part of the country or not, chances are good allergy season is right around the corner. For a lot of us, this means trying to find ways to cope without taking medications. In addition to feeling miserable, seasonal allergies can also trigger asthma attacks. To help minimize seasonal allergic reactions, check out these tips.

Spend Limited Time Outdoors

Check the pollen count every day so that you know when to avoid going outside. Typically, early and mid-morning are the worst times to be outside during allergy season. If possible, schedule your outdoor activities later in the day if possible.

Keep Doors and Windows Shut

The gaps in your window and door screens aren’t small enough to keep pollen out. If it gets too stuffy indoors, run your air conditioning or keep a fan going.

Leave Shoes by the Door

Walking outdoors allows shoes to pick up irritants. Avoid bringing these irritants indoors by taking off your shoes by the door. Also, wipe off your dog or cat’s paws after they have been outside so that they don’t bring allergens indoors.

Shower in the Evening

Allergens will cling to your clothes and hair once you have been outside. Avoid bringing these irritants into the bedroom and making your symptoms a whole lot worse overnight by showering each evening.

Add Spice

Spices act as a natural decongestant by calming inflammation. Now is a great time to sample some spicy foods. Drinking ginger tea is a great way to add spice to your daily diet, too. Simply add 3 to 4 slices of fresh, peeled ginger to hot water and enjoy!
