National Nutrition Month
As February comes to a close, it is the best time to start looking forward to all that you are going to accomplish in March. March is National Nutrition Month, which is the perfect time to find small ways that you can live a healthier lifestyle. National Nutrition Month was started by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as a way to bring attention to the need to make informed food choices each day.
There are many ways to celebrate National Nutrition Month, including:
- Make a plan – take time each Sunday to make a plan for what you are going to eat all week. Go grocery shopping to make sure that you have all the ingredients needed to make each of your meals. As an added bonus, making a plan will help to cut down on the amount of stress you have to deal with when you get off work and are looking for something to eat.
- Load up early, go light later – try to eat heavier, more filling meals at the beginning of the day. If you do not have time to make a full breakfast, use lunch as your meal to load up. Eating most of your calories early in the day will help to keep you full, avoiding late night snacking.
- Earn your calories – the more you move throughout the day, the more you can eat while maintaining a healthy weight. Try to get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes every day to keep you happy and healthy. Simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator can be enough to get your blood pumping.
