It’s National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day! Celebrate the holiday with this easy but delicious recipe.
Today is not just your average Thursday. It’s much, much better than that; it’s National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day! That’s right, we’ve got a whole day set aside to celebrate arguably the most popular dessert in the nation. It’s easy to participate, too! Sure, you could buy a box of cookies, but store bought never tastes as good as a batch you made yourself.
So get into the kitchen and whip up your own batch of cookies! This recipe for chocolate chip cookies will take you just 20 minutes to throw together. Your friends and your stomach will thank you!
To make two dozen cookies, you’ll need:
- 1 cup of softened butter
- 1 packed cup of brown sugar
- 1 cup of white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 3 cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 cups of semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup of chopped walnuts (optional)
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter with both sugars until the mixture is smooth. Beat in the first egg, followed by the second. Stir in the vanilla.
In a small bowl, dissolve the baking soda in 2 teaspoons of hot water. Add it and the salt to your batter.
Slowly stir the flour into your batter, cup by cup. Mix in the chocolate chips and walnuts, if you want them.
Drop heaping spoonfuls of the batter onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for ten minutes, watching the cookies. Once the edges start to brown, pull them out and let them cool. Then – here comes the best part – enjoy!
